In the early part of 1993, two friends got together and decided to open a paper that would serve the citizens of Park-Extension; a district which since 1932 had no paper covering the news in and around the region. The Parc-Extension News is a newspaper dedicated to exploring local issues. It caters to the information needs of ParK-Extension areas residents. It features up-to-date political and social stories along with poignant and quick witted commentary on subjects that affect not only our local readers but Canadians as a whole from coast to coast. Unlike many community newspapers, the Parc-Extension News frequently goes beyond the story, to isolate the focal point of events that shape the city, the province, the country and the world.	Vol. 1 No. 1 dated March 19, 1993! By George Bakoyannis and George Guzmas (on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the paper) Many newspapers in the area have come and gone; some have even disappeared within their first three months of existence - with tens of thousands of dollars worth of government grants as well. As a result, when we came out with our first edition many critics predicted the same dismal ending for us...I guess they were wrong! As a matter of fact, on March 19, 2003, Parc-Extension News celebrated its tenth year anniversary of continuous publication. It's indeed a huge accomplishment when you consider the odds that stood against our team. Publishing a paper in an area that is little known for its entrepreneurship, the chances of surviving are very slim; especially since there aren't enough companies out there that are willing to advertise. In our ten years of existence, The Parc-Extension News has published among other things hard-hitting editorials and articles, such as the ones that pushed for necessary relocation of our district's jewel, the PEYO organization, so that they could work in a bigger and more spacious environment. In addition, we've always strived to inform our readers as adequately as possible about topics and issues which concern them. We've always worked hard to give Park-Extension residents a voice, an outlet in which they could vent their concerns and let it be known. When you were demanding a cultural centre, library and swimming pool for the district, we were right there with you. And guess what, the Library has become a reality currently located in the former William Hingston High School and pretty soon, on that same premise, we'll also have a swimming pool to enjoy. In celebration of our tenth year anniversary, we would like to thank our readers, the various companies that have loyally supported us with their hard-earned and precious dollars, the numerous workers and liaison officers from each level of government. And last, but not least the team of researchers and journalists that have made the Parc-Extension News a mainstay in the community. Thank you.
