150 Leaders of All Origins Attend the Dinner Cocktail of Union Montréal’s Cultural Communities’ Commission
Published March 10, 2009

Union Montréal’s Cultural Communities Commission hosted a cocktail dinner party on February 25th, at the Holiday Inn La Plaza Hotel, under the honorary presidency of Union Montréal’s leader and Montréal mayor Gérald Tremblay.  150 people of all origins, from all over Montréal, attended the event to show their support to Gérald Tremblay.

In a passionate speech, Mr. Tremblay shared with his supporters what motivates him to seek a 3rd straight mandate as mayor.  “Montréal’s cosmopolitan character is one of its greatest strengths.  Our party, Union Montréal, clearly reflects this fact, with its diversified, experienced, qualified, creative and talented team.  Union Montreal best represents what the New Montreal we envision is all about: a peaceful mosaic, that brings together people of various origins, talents, aspirations, and dreams.”

Also, the Commission’s president, Mr. Georges Berberi, spoke of the key role played by cultural communities at Union Montréal.  “Cultural communities are more and more interested in participating actively in municipal politics.  Union Montréal acknowledges this fact and encourages cultural communities to get even more involved in our Party.”

This cocktail is one of the Commission’s many initiatives.  In June 2008, the Commission hosted a conference on female political mentorship, with key speaker Mrs. Martine Blanc.  Also, last December, the Commission organized another conference under the theme “Initiation to Democracy”, aiming at encouraging cultural communities to participate in municipal politics.  Dr Sami Aoun, a professor of political science at Université de Sherbrooke and a well-respected expert on Middle East issues, acted as guest speaker on the occasion.
