The Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Services and M.N.A. for Laurier-Dorion, Mr. Gerry Sklavounos, is delighted with the announcement made by the Minister of Government Services, Ms. Dominique Vien, of a subsidy given to organizations in Laurier-Dorion in the framework of the financial assistance program Appui au passage à la société de l’information (Support for the transition towards an information society). This program consists of financial support offered to non-profit organizations or research projects that promote access to the Internet and information technologies. Precisely, the organizations benefiting from this program are:

- L’organisme Communautique, which will receive an amount of 200 000$ to help promote access to information technology for disadvantaged citizens. This organization will also receive an amount 315 570$ to fund research into the challenges facing access to information technology to illiterate citizens.

- L’organisme Centre d’accès communautaire-sourd, which will receive an amount of 50 000$ to offer internet technology adapted to the needs of the visually and hearing impaired.

"I am delighted with the announcement of this program that will allow for more citizens of Laurier-Dorion to have access to the information society. Access to the Internet and information technologies must be encouraged” said Mr. Sklavounos.

The program Appui au passage à la société de l’information carries with it a budget envelope of $7.8 million dollars. The Minister of Government Services hopes that this program will allow more Québecers to enhance their openness to the world as well as contribute to the socio-economic vitality of their communities.
