The Indian Community organized a get together & dinner party on May 23rd, 2009 at the local auditorium in Montreal, to celebrate the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar birthday. This year’s celebrations have once again attracted a large number of community members and distinguished guests. Mr. Benoit Labonté, Leader of the Official Opposition at City Hall, Borough Mayor of Ville-Marie, Leader of Vision Montreal and Mr. Benoit is a candidate for Mayor of Montreal at the City Election on coming November 2009, Madame Anie Samson, Borough Mayor of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, Mr. Gerry Sklavounos, M.N.A. (Laurier-Dorion) and Mr. Justin P.J. Trudeau, M.P. (Papineau) was present for this special celebration. On this occasion, the association honored elected politicians also from South Asian Community to Mr. Nahid Hussain, Special Advisor, for the Official Opposition office at City Hall and Mr. Sarker Mustaque, Ex-Candidate for Federal.
On behalf of Dr. B.R. Ambedkhar Welfare Society, Montreal President Mr. Rattan Singh Jakhu thanked the community and their distinguished guests for their participation to this event. To mark the occasion, a mix of multi-cultural food was served, and the event ended with the presentation of a colourful cultural show.
