PX celebrates 100 years

The official poster announcing the 100th anniversary of the district of Park-Extension was officially unveiled at the Borough Council meeting on June 1, 2010. The borough plans to display the poster on lamppost frames throughout the district for the duration of the year of celebrations which will be launched on July 3.

Mrs. Mary Deros, a resident of Park-Ex since 1969, is particularly proud to be involved in celebrating this anniversary. ″This area is such an essential part of my personal history, I live here, I raised my family here, my political career is anchored here and I love the people and places and streets of Park Ex. I am proud to invite all Montrealers to discover this unique district on the occasion of its 100th anniversary ″.

The idea of celebrating Park-Ex’s 100th anniversary was first brought to Park-Ex municipal councilor and member of the Montreal executive committee: Mary Deros , by the Park-Ex historical society’s president: Mary McCutcheon.

At the instigation of Mrs. Deros the project received approval and funding from the borough of Villeray-St-Michel-Park-Extension as well as the technical and logistical support from the borough’s services.

The official launch of the celebrations will be held on Saturday, July 3 at 2 PM at Park Athena on Jean-Talon Street in the heart of Park Ex. The official launch will be followed by the opening of a photographic exposition, created and produced by the Park Extension Historical Society, depicting 100 years of Park Ex’s history. The exposition will run on Saturday July 3 from 3 PM to 10 PM and on Sunday, July 4 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

″This launch is only the beginning of the celebrations, ″ explains Mrs. Deros, ″in fact all the activities in the borough will have a 100th anniversary dimension and the borough will ensure that the anniversary feeling continues until the culmination of the festivities one year from now.″

″ I invite all the citizens of Park Ex to join in the celebrations which will be announced throughout the year and I encourage them to participate in the spirit of the 100th anniversary by helping keep Park Ex clean. Let’s all be proud of Park Ex ″, concludes Mrs. Deros.
