The M.N.A. for Laurier-Dorion and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Services, Mr. Gerry Sklavounos, remitted today, on behalf of his colleagues at the National Assembly, a cheque in the amount of 101 950$ to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the relief and rescue mission in Pakistan following this summer’s deadly floods.
Present at the announcement were Mr. Usman Chachar, the Consul General of Pakistan, Mr. Pascal Mathieu and Mr. Michel Léveillé of the Canadian Red Cross, as well as several members of Québec’s Pakistani community.
“Although many displaced persons can now return home, they will continue to need humanitarian assistance over the next two years. This applies not only for the province of Sindh but for the entire country as well. I wish to thank Mr. Sklavounos for his support of the Red Cross relief efforts and for his leadership in mobilizing donors for this campaign”, declared Mr. Michel Léveillé, Director of the Red Cross, Québec Division.
“Our nation is facing harsh conditions and the road to recovery is long. However, efforts are numerous and ongoing and we are very grateful for the initiative taken by Mr. Sklavounos to mobilize Quebec’s parliamentarians. It is a gesture of solidarity with our people that we will never forget", concluded Mr. Chachar, the Consul General of Pakistan.
“I would like to thank my National Assembly colleagues and, particularly, our Premier and our caucus for demonstrating their generosity alongside our local Pakistani community following this summer’s tragic events in Pakistan that called upon our solidarity and to which we responded affirmatively”, mentioned Mr. Sklavounos.
