Montreal extends state of emergency to May 26

Montreal has been in a state of emergency due to COVID-19. City of Montreal’s executive committee has renewed the state of emergency until May 26.

The City first declared a state of emergency on March 27.

The City of Montreal has the right to declare a state of emergency under the Civil Protection Act. This Act gives the city exceptional powers to handle an emergency.

This week, the city council adopted a motion which allows the executive committee to extend the state of emergency every five days. Click here to read the full story.
